Lessons from the
100-acre Project
Both deer and turkeys responded immediately to the recently cleared plots and conservation seed, available from the NWTF. The plots were planted with the Plotmaster 300 and the seed was treated with DeltAg Seed Coat to promote strong growth even during the dry summer season in the South. As soon as the wheat greened up, turkeys and deer were browsing the new growth and many hens brought their broods to the plots.
When the chufa, wheat and sorghum created a solid stand of green, grassy, bug-attracting plants, the gobblers, hens and poults visited the plots daily. The plots will mature this fall and provide excellent winter food for turkeys, growing jakes and jennies, songbirds and other wildlife. Check out these exclusive videos from the Day 6 Outdoors PlotWatcher HD Time-Lapse Video Camera to see the entire process.
